OSTLICHT SELECTION

OstLicht Selection is the name of the series of the OstLicht Gallery in the BROTFABRIK WIEN, which regularly presents a hand-picked selection of works by international and local photographers. This year's spring exhibition, on view from 15.02.2023, celebrates life and people, from celebrities to anonymous nude models, opening up diverse perspectives from joyful to critical to contemplative into the world as uniquely captured on camera.

Francesca Catastini refers to James Joyce in her series The modern spirit is Vivisective and dissects reality photographically, operating with images, text or other objects to invent new meanings. The works of Piero Percoco, on the other hand, reach right into the life of his homeland, the south of Italy. He photographs everyday life with humour and irony, sometimes in colourfully reduced, almost still-life-like details.

Nan Goldin's photos offer a critical look behind the glittering glamour scenes of the big fashion shows in Paris and New York. The US-American is considered one of the main representatives of diary photography of the 80s and 90s.

The world-famous landscape painter Alfons von Walde was also discovered as a master of photography after his death. Whereby his focus was gladly on the female nude. The OstLicht Selection shows a fine selection of his work. Austrian photography is also represented by artists such as Christian Eisenberger, Anna Breit, Reiner Riedler and Ernst Haas.

Of course, representatives of the Magnum agency such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Inge Morath, Eve Arnold, Dennis Stock and many more will also be present.
The artistic photography of Mario Giacomelli, who reinterpreted the theme of landscape in the 1950s, or the enigmatic-atmospheric fashion photographs of Sarah Moon and other positions of renowned artists round off the selection of the sales exhibition.

Deix lebt! Due to the successful winter exhibition and numerous requests from Deix lovers, another room of the Ostlicht Selection show is dedicated to the unforgettable Austrian caricaturist.
